Maps

The maps on the next few pages show the spread of the Dawkins name across England. The name was spread from east to west across the middle of the country.

Yet by later years had spread to five main areas mainly Essex, Hampshire, London & Middlesex, Kent and South Wales. Smaller groups are Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Staffordshire and Surrey. Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Warwickshire follow next. The earliest date is around 1450 in Warwickshire see here for the map.

The IGI however is far from complete and many baptisms are unrecorded. This leads to large gaps in the data.

Distribution Maps

Map showing Dawkins Baptisms between the years 1501 to 1600

This map shows the distribution of Dawkins baptisms between the years 1501 to 1600. As can be seen the baptisms are in two main groups as indicated by the larger red dots. These are located in the counties of Devon (23 baptisms) in the south west of the country and Lincolnshire (17 baptisms) in the east. The source information for the map is from the IGI available at the Familysearch website. It is interesting to note the most baptisms are to be found in an arc across the eastern top part of the Midlands counties.
