Although genealogy is an interesting pursuit there comes a time when the paper trail becomes cold or difficult to progress any further. Hence the Dawkins DNA Project. Join it now!!!
The project objectives are......
During my research for example, I've discovered in Stapleford Abbots, Essex two families with the name of Dawkins yet both appear to be unconnected and I've been unable to connect them via a paper trail. Also there were a large number of Dawkins living and coming from the Rodings of Essex some 10 miles away from Stapleford Abbots and despite the same surname appear not to be connected genetically.
The county of Essex had quite a large community of Dawkins all coming from an area of 20 miles radius of Stapleford Abbots yet so far appearing to be unconnected. Does this apply also to Dawkins in other countries? The results so far seem to confirm this, so more participants are needed.
DNA testing can prove or disprove connections between Dawkins branches or Dawkins families in the same area. We know from those who have participated so far that not all Dawkins in the UK are connected. However we have had some success with the Dawkins in the USA a number of whom appear to have descended from the same ancestor. But they have not found his connection back to the UK at this moment.

Current Statistics:
Date of Last Update: 02 Mar 2018
Number of Participants: 27
Number of Unique Families: 11
Number of Matched Groups: 11
Number of Kits Not Yet Returned: 1
Legend:
In the table, there are a number of features. First, click on any of the
underlined ancestor or group names to access their pedigree information. Clicking on the underlined kit number
will allow you to email the owner of that kit! If there is a "Y" in the column entitled "Web",
it means that this participant has a website and you can access it by clicking on the "Y". The DYS numbers in
red are considered fast mutating markers. Finally, Haplogroups that have been confimed by SNP testing are in
bold green text.
Matched Group Results:
This first page of
information details the results for all of the projects matched groups. All of these groups have been
identified by careful analysis of all available data including, number of markers tested, number of
mismatches, which markers were mismatched and existing genealogies. Except in rare occasions, once a
matched group is identified, they are assigned a permanent group number and are referred to in the
future by that number.
The group has established a dna connection between the USA and Australia back to the UK. Through the Australia connection we have a paper trail through to the UK and there is a one step mutation between the USA and Australian members and the UK participant.
The group members are from Dawkins families of White Roding, Essex. Albeit the close proximity (approx 10 miles) of the village to Stapleford Abbots and the Dawkins family there. DNA tesing has apparently ruled out any connection.
The Afro/Carribean group only has one member so far. More are needed. It is highly likely that the Dawkins surname was adopted via the plantations of Jamaica. The Dawkins family of Overnorton in Oxfordshire England had numerous plantations in the Carribean.
USA Dawkins not in Group 1. Most of these have all tested with identical results apart from the odd single mutation. As yet there is no dna link back to the UK.
